Curing-System Differences
Polyester resin requires a compatible curing agent. TGIC and HAA are common options for carboxyl-functional polyester systems. The curing-agent dosage should be calculated from the resin functionality and the curing agent’s reactive equivalent, then verified through laboratory trials.
Epoxy resin can react with several curing chemistries depending on the target application. The selected curing agent affects storage stability, melt flow, gel time, cure temperature, chemical resistance, and film properties.
Incomplete cure may reduce hardness, adhesion, solvent resistance, and durability. Excessive cure can also affect color, gloss, and production efficiency.
Surface Appearance and Processing
Both polyester and epoxy systems can produce smooth, textured, matte, glossy, or special-effect finishes. Surface quality depends on:
