What Is Polyester Resin Used for?

Polyester Resin is used as the primary film-forming binder in many thermosetting powder coatings. It melts during baking, flows across the substrate, and reacts with a curing agent to form the main structure of the finished coating film.

Its molecular design has a major influence on whether the coating is smooth, hard, flexible, weather-resistant, chemically resistant, easy to process, or stable during storage.

Its Main Role in Powder Coating

Polyester resin holds the other formulation ingredients together and becomes the continuous protective film after curing.

It helps determine:

The resin must match the HAA curing mechanism. A TGIC polyester should not be assumed to perform correctly with HAA simply because both products are described as polyester powder-coating materials.

Polyester resin can also be combined with epoxy resin to create hybrid powder coatings.

Hybrid systems are widely used for indoor products requiring:
